Rant – Generation of Apathy

Ok I’m going to appologize ahead of time for this rant.  I’m not typically one to speak my mind on these types of things but It’s been bugging me!

I live in the great state of New York.  As most people know it’s a big state with lots and lots of people.  62 of these people work for the rest of us in Albany as our representatives.  They are supposed to be our voices in our state government.  I don’t know about any of you but they are most certainly not speaking for me now!  The four years olds are fighting over who gets to go down the slide first.  But that aside what frightens me more, no one is doing anything about it.  We all grumble about how they need to get back to work and stop the bickering but who among us has done anything about it?  Where are the marches?  Where are the protest signs? I’m just as guilty as the next person be we seem to do a lot of complaining and a whole lot of nothing for action!  How many of us have so much as emailed our senators and told them that they need to get back to work?  But why not?  Why haven’t we? I have an idea.  My generatation has grown up on instant gratification and it’s only getting worse.  We have DVR’s so we can watch what we want when we want. Cell phones that rival NASA’s computer system when we went to the moon.  Fast food, instant food, anything we want as soon as we want it.  Now change, real change, is something you can’t get “on demand” you have to get up  make some noise and even against you’re hardest attempts you may still not get anywhere.  It’s goes against everything we were brought up on.  And the worst part is as soon as it comes time when you can actually voice your opinion (voting) people just blindly vote or worse yet they don’t vote at all.  That truely is a shame.

Ok I think I’ve got that off my chest now.

Birthday Weekend

Wow what a busy weekend!  Saturday Lee took me to see Star Trek for my birthday.  I thought it was a great movie!  The actors did a wonderful job capturing the essence of the characters with out completely copying their mannerisms…the only thing that I wish there was more of was Simon Pegg as Scotty.  Perfect casting job!  Yes I know it wasn’t the Star Trek from back in the day but it wasn’t supposed to be!  After the movie we went to Don and Melissa’s where he was watching a boot-leg copy of Star Trek…Don’t watch the movie twice in a row or else you’ll start nit-picking all of the problems with it.  We went home rather early as we had to play at church Sunday morning.

I lead worship for the second time on Sunday.  It was awesome again!  I love the feeling of being apart of what God is doing!  Such a sense of fulfilment! We then spent the day going to all the Dad’s for Father’s day.  My mom also took us out to Texas Roadhouse for dinner…mmm steak…

I took yesterday off to relax.  Lee and I went down town for lunch (Syracuse Suds) where she won $20 on a scratch off.  We paid $5 for lunch it was great.  That got us thinking of going to Turning Stone Casino (we had never been before).  We each put $20 on our card and hit the slots.  There are some intersting characters around that place.  I was up to $56 before I accidently hit the “max bet” button…I went down to about $30 😦 but we ended the day +20 so it wasn’t too bad.  Not a place I could frequent but it was a good time.

We went to Chili’s for dinner and somehow didn’t order the Chocolate Molten Cake…usually if we get nothing else we get that.  And we went home and just relaxed the rest of the day.

So that was my weekend…I don’t have much else to say so happy my monday to everyone! 😛

Leading Again

Good Day all! I’m leading worship again on Sunday, which happens to be my birthday 🙂 (looking for a netbook computer for gift ideas..). I’m pretty excited about it! I don’t have as much time to prepare for it as I did last time so we’ll see how that goes. It seems I will have a good band to back me up again so that will help.

It’s been almost a whole week on this slim-fast/walking routine and so far so good :-). I feel a lot better and and it feels like I’m losing weight. I don’t have a scale so I don’t know what if any weight I’ve actually lost so we’ll have to grab one of those at some point I guess. Anyway sorry for the short post but musy busy day today…that and I can’t think of anything else to write 😛

Weekend

This weekend Lee and I celebrated out 1 year anniversary…we’re both still alive so I suppose we’re doing alright.  We spent pretty much the whole weekend together (she had to work Saturday morning).  We went down and visited my mom after she got out of work and then we hit up the mall.  I don’t know why we do that…there isn’t a whole lot to do there.  There never is.  So we went home and then to the store to pick up a few things.  We also grabbed Bedtime Stories and The Day the Earth Stood Still. Both were good movies.  It’s nice to pick up a movie and it actually be entertaining for all ages.

Yesterday we slept in a bit and went to Nestico’s for breakfast.  I’ll admit I had some thing I know I shouldn’t have had but I limited my self on those.  We then travelled to Target where I bought a new shirt for our fancy dinner that evening.  Speaking of dinner.  The food at Daniella’s is amazing.  I had the filet au proivre and every bite was spectacular!  Lee ordered the shrimp scampi which she also enjoyed.  Dinner came with a free bottle of wine…I unfortunately picked the one which Lee doesn’t like. Go Me… But all in all I think we had a good fun weekend together :-).

We did unfortunately miss church.  It’s wierd not having to play on a Sunday morning…being there at 7:30am…you know before the sun wakes up.  Part of me missed it and the other part of me was happy I didn’t have to be anywhere!

I’m trying this SlimFast thing.  Trying to lost 80 lbs by the end of the year.  I’m back down to 300 so I’m hoping to hit my high school weight of 220.  I felt so much better then so I hope that that feeling comes back!

Sick

So I’m sick.  I have a “fatty liver” which is no fun.  I woke up yesterday with a fever and sharp pains in my side.  It was a very similar feeling as to when I had panceratitis.  So I went to the doctor’s this morning and told him everything that was going on.  I got poked and proded for about 2 hours this morning.  I hate that.  There was talk of gall stones and possible pnemonia.  Both of those tests came back negative so that’s good.  Not having to to be sliced open is a plus in my book!  So I’m stuck in bed for a couple of days…eating bland food…I hope I feel better for Sunday (1 year of marriage :-)).  Sorry for the short up date but not feeling well today.  Hope to have a longer one tomorrow for you all!

Weekend

Well it’s been two whole days and I am still alive (yay).  This weekend was great.  Not that I did a whole lot but that was nice as well.  Lee had to work till 12 on Saturday and I was able to just lay back and watch some TV (my a.m. appointment cancelled).  When she got home we went to Buffalo Wild Wings for lunch.  I had some kind of BBQ chicken sandwich that had bacon on it.  Delicious and now I’m hungry just thinking about it!  Then we wandered to Walmart where I got some new flip flops.  I hate having to break those in.  Blisters and what not.  Saturday evening we went over to Lyci and Dan’s for some poker.  Lee (who had never played poker before) seems to keep winning I just don’t understand.  We left a bit early than usual because we had to be up at 6am to be at church by 7:15am.

Speaking of church.  I told you guys last week that I was going to be leading worship on Sunday morning.  We got there before everyone else and I was able to get just about everything set up for them.  We didn’t actually get to start practice till about 7:45 which made me worry since we were supposed to start at 7:30.  Practice started off alright and then the technical difficulties began.  The bass was creating a buzzing noise, so we continued as the bass equipment was being looked at.  It’s kind of difficult to do this since we are using in ear monitors but we pushed forward.  Luckily they were able to fix it and we kept rolling on.  I was happy that the practice only took about 30 minutes to go through the whole set (6 songs) and so we ran through it again.  We still had 30 minutes before service began so we all took a break and did some prayer and everything was great.  The service went better than I could have imagined.  It was like God took over!  Sure there were a few hiccups here and there but everything went great and the congregation was really into it!  I really hope to do it again sooner than later 🙂

We got home from church and took a nice long nap to recharge the batteries.  Then we went over to the Wheeler’s for some desert and Wii.  We played some Mario cart (Lee was getting frustrated b/c she was not doing so well) and then Mario Party 8.  It was a blast!  I love hanging with the Wheeler’s.  We got home around 11:30 or so and pretty much went right to sleep.  I can always sleep no matter the nap during the day.

So that was my weekend…how was yours?

Wednesday/Thursday

Missed posting yesterday, sorry about that.  Wednesday was great.  The work days was “eh whatever” but that night leading worship with the High Schoolers was amazing.  The night started off a bit rocky.  I was expetcing to have  a band there but not so much :-(.  But as I was waiting around the gentleman who was leading the group that night showed up and he also plays bass.  He asked if I wanted him to play…am I going to say no of course not he’s great.  So now we have acoustic and a bass it’s kinda weird but it works.  The some one showed up who plays piano and also a drummer.  Now we have a full band and it’s about 20 minutes before we are to start.  So we blow through the songs just to get a feel for them.  I’m thinking that this will be mediocer worship at best.  When the kids came back in, they had been playing kick ball, they looked tired which made me feel disheartened.  So we started to play and I could immediately feel the energy rise.  I love being able to hear everyone singing along.  It turned out to be a great worship experience and i think they kids got as much out of it as I did.

Last night I had the leadership meeting at our pastor’s house (John).  I was the first one there(I live about 2 minutes from his house).  We had a great time.  BBQ and making new friends is always a great time!  We’re reading John Maxwell’s Developing the Leader Within, which is full of great in-site.  As we were wrapping up John told us that his daughter (who lives in Philly) was on her way to the hospital and he was driving down tonight.  If you are they praying type please keep her in your thoughts and prayers.

I also have not been feeling well.  My abdomen had been really tender/sore the last few days.  I don’t know if it’s nerves or something else (I’m hoping nerves), so I’m trying to eat as little as possible and see if that helps.  We shall see.  Also I haven’t seen as much of my wife as I would like.  She works till 10 and by that point I’m ready for bed.  At least we’ll get some more time together this weekend and I’m hoping once school is out she’ll be able to work more day shifts and I’ll get to see her more.  That would be real nice :-).  Ok I’m done babbling for the moment.
