1 John 4:19 (NIV) “We love because He loved us.”
When I think of the word love the first thing I think about is my wife and the feelings I have associated with her. The warm and fuzzy ooey gooey, warm blanket on a cold day feeling. But as I read this passage I realize that’s not what’s being talked about. I noticed that in this sentence love is a verb, an action…not a noun. This means doing something! Jesus loved us by dieing on the cross for us. He died for us. It’s sometimes hard for me to wrap my head around. Someone, no just someone God, loved me so much that he was beaten, toutrued, ridiculed, and eventually died so that He could be with me.
Now Jesus told us to love one another. I’m sure he didn’t mean have warm fuzzies all the time. He meant love, the action, one another. One thing that always come to mind when I think of this is simply helping someone out who needs it. Doesn’t have to be anything big, something as simple as helping someone gather the things they’ve dropped. Or maybe just a word of encouragement at the right moment will go a long way.
What ways do you Love?
Sorry about the lack of posts lately. I’ve been crazy busy with life and all.
Lately I’ve been trying to think of ways of finding musicians for our team. Worship is kind of a unique ministry. Unlike some others the people who volunteer need to have some skill. I can’t just randomly ask people to join my ministry and try it out. What makes matters even more complicated is that I’m leading at a site where I don’t live. It’s thirty minutes from everyone I know who may be able to help. I have to rely on the congregation as a pool. Not sure how to go about recruiting for people. Any thoughts?
